Chief Fire Safety Officer R.W.G. LOWE

 

Rupert William George LOWE joined the Hobart Fire Brigade in July 1955.  He progressed through the ranks, achieving the rank of Superintendent in October 1975.  A highly efficient fire ground operational officer and trainer of fire fighters; he also displayed particular skills in the fields of fire prevention and fire protection.  He was appointed Hobart Brigade Fire Safety Officer in February 1978.

 

With the formation of the State Fire Commission and the single Tasmania Fire Service in 1979, Mr Lowe was appointed Chief Fire Protection Officer and Head of the Fire Prevention Division.  Under his guidance and leadership, the Division now known as the Fire Safety Division, has developed an acceptance throughout Tasmania, of the needs for high standards of fire safety, and in particularly in public buildings.  His involvement in the maintenance of fire safety, and in the development of public awareness and his contribution to public education in fire and safety matters has been outstanding.

 

Mr Lowe is fully deserving of the Award of the Australian Fire Service Medal.
