Australian
Fire Service Medal
1991
William Thomas HOLMES joined the Snug Volunteer Rural Fire Brigade in 1969 and was elected Brigade Captain in 1975. On the introduction of the Group of Brigades system into the Tasmania Fire Service in 1979, he was appointed Group Captain of the Kingborough Group of Brigades, whilst still remaining a member of the Snug Brigade.
Mr Holmes has always set an extremely high standard of fire fighting performance and, through his example has motivated many volunteer members of brigades in his group. He is a most experienced volunteer fire officer who has earned the respect of volunteer and permanent members of the Fire Service as well as local Governments officers, other local groups and State Parliamentarians.
He has been a highly valued member of the Kingborough Local Fire Committee and of the Hobart Special Fire Area Committee and has most efficiently performed the duties of Fire Permit Officer for over fifteen years. Mr Holmes is the President of the Southern Region Country Fire Brigades Association, and is an active member on the Volunteer Fire Brigades Competition Committee.
Mr Holmes’s dedication and contribution is above and beyond that expected of a volunteer member of the Fire service and he would be a most worthy recipient of the Australian Fire Service Medal.
