Donald John JONES joined the Fern Tree Volunteer Brigade
in 1971, and progressed through the ranks of the Brigade being appointed to the
position of Chief Officer in 1978. Under
his leadership the Fern Tree Brigade has developed into one of the most
efficient volunteer brigades in
This has been demonstrated by the brigade winning the award for the “Most Efficient Volunteer Urban Brigade” in the Southern Region on seven occasions, since inception of the award in 1979.
During this period the brigade has also been assessed as the “Most Efficient Volunteer Urban Brigade” in the State on four occasions.
Mr Jones has been a most valuable contributor to the Tasmania Fire Service through his active role as Volunteer Chief Officer Seminars and has been actively involved as a member of several Tasmania Fire Service Committees.
He was one of the first volunteer members to obtain the Institution of Fire Engineers Preliminary Certificate and has also completed the Diploma of Applied Science (Fire Technology) Course.
He has actively promoted fire safety and fire awareness in the Fern Tree community and has encouraged children to join his brigade as junior members.
Mr Jones is highly respected in the community and he would be a worthy recipient of the Australian Fire Service Medal.
