James Maxwell SMITH officially joined the Stanley Volunteer Fire Brigade on 18th February 1959 after serving three years as a junior member.
He was appointed as Brigade Chief on May 1972 and is still serving in that position
Mr Smith has taken a keen interest in all Fire service activities and attends numerous training courses to further his knowledge and skills to improve the Brigade’s efficiency.
He was a member of the Fire Service advisory Council until it was disbanded and contributed a great deal to that Council.
Mr Smith was awarded a National Medal in 1975 and a clasp in 1985.
Mr Smith is a dedicated Fire Officer and his 32 years of service have earned him the respect of the local community and the appreciation of the Tasmania Fire Service.
