Second Officer - Terence Stewart GILL
Terence Stewart GILL joined the Fern Tree Volunteer
Fire Brigade on 1st February 1977. He was promoted to Third Officer
on 1st July 1980 and to Second Officer on 1st May 1990.
Terence has had a very active career with the Fern
Tree Volunteer Brigade and made a substantial contribution to the Tasmania Fire
service in a voluntary capacity.
Some of his achievements are:-
- First
volunteer to achieve Preliminary Institution of Fire Engineers and one of
the few volunteers to hold an Associate Diploma of Applied Science in Fire
technology.
- A
founding member of the Tasmanian Fire Museum Society and Secretary since
inception in 1979.
- Active
member of the organising committee for the Hobart Fire Brigade’s
Centenary. Also lead the team that
restored an 1825 manual fire fighting appliance which was in the centenary
celebrations.
- Long
serving executive committee member of the Institution of Fire Engineers
(Tas Branch) and secretary for 2 years.
- Qualified
as a Volunteer Training Instructor.
- Played
an active role in the development of the Service’s Community Fireguard
project.
- Assisted
in the production of a Fire service Protocol Manual.
