Second Officer - Terence Stewart GILL

Terence Stewart GILL joined the Fern Tree Volunteer Fire Brigade on 1^st February 1977. He was promoted to Third Officer on 1^st July 1980 and to Second Officer on 1^st May 1990.

Terence has had a very active career with the Fern Tree Volunteer Brigade and made a substantial contribution to the Tasmania Fire service in a voluntary capacity.

Some of his achievements are:-

• First volunteer to achieve Preliminary Institution of Fire Engineers and one of the few volunteers to hold an Associate Diploma of Applied Science in Fire technology.

• A founding member of the Tasmanian Fire Museum Society and Secretary since inception in 1979.

• Active member of the organising committee for the Hobart Fire Brigade’s Centenary. Also lead the team that restored an 1825 manual fire fighting appliance which was in the centenary celebrations.

• Long serving executive committee member of the Institution of Fire Engineers (Tas Branch) and secretary for 2 years.

• Qualified as a Volunteer Training Instructor.

• Played an active role in the development of the Service’s Community Fireguard project.

• Assisted in the production of a Fire service Protocol Manual.
