Deputy Chief Officer – Peter John ALEXANDER

 

Peter John ALEXANDER joined the Tasmania Fire Service in 1974 as a recruit fire-fighter in the Hobart Fire Brigade.  He progressed through the ranks to Station Officer in 1981.

His promotion to Superintendent in the Hobart Fire Brigade in 1989 was shortly followed in 1991 to the position of Brigade Chief of the Hobart Fire Brigade.

 

During his period of Brigade Chief he was instrumental in developing and implementing a series of reforms and the restructuring of the brigade.

In 1994 he was appointed to Regional Officer of the Southern Region.

 

He was promoted to his current position of Deputy Chief Officer in March 1996.  As head of operations and as a senior executive he has had considerable input and influence on the strategic direction and management of the Tasmania Fire Service.

 

He served as a member of the State Fire Commission Superannuation Advisory Committee from 1991-1994.  he is currently a Director on the Board of the State Fire Commission Superannuation Scheme Pty Ltd.

 

MR Alexander holds the Membership Diploma of the Institution of Fire Engineers.

 

He served as Secretary to the Tasmanian Branch of the Australian Fire protection Association from June 1990 to October 1995.  In that role he actively participated in the organising committee of the International Conference “Fire Down Under” held in Hobart 1n 1992.

 

He was awarded the National Medal in 1989.
