Regional Officer – Roland Scott HILL

 

Roland Scott HILL has completed 30 years with the Tasmania Fire Service having started as a fire fighter with the Hobart Fire Brigade in 1968 and progressing through the various ranks to his present executive position of Regional Officer for Southern Tasmania.

 

His extensive career experience included the following specialist areas:-

 

  • Aerial appliance instructor/operator
  • Arson investigator
  • Fire protection and fire safety officer.
  • Emergency response & counter disaster management.
  • Graduate Certificate Public Sector Management
  • Numerous other specialist training courses.
  • Brigade Chief of Hobart Fire Brigade.

 

In 1985 he was appointed the first Tasmania Fire Service Officer to develop and implement specialist Fire Investigation skills into the Tasmania Fire Service.  He now represents the organisation in this area as a senior executive spokesman at all Fire Investigation forums both within and outside Tasmania.  He is recognised nationally as an expert in this field.

 

His other great interest has been with the Historical Society where his active involvement in promotion and restoration of historical memorabilia relating to the Tasmania Fire Service has required extensive after hours work and travel throughout the State.

 

His extraordinary ability and commitment to Fire Sr4vice logistics has ensured that the latest technology in fire appliances and all other support vehicles and equipments are now an integral part of the services modern resource capability.

 

He was awarded the National medal in 1983 and the Clasp in 1993.
