Ian commenced with the Tasmania Fire Service on 2 February 1989. He has served in both the Northern and North West regions as an Operational Firefighter, Officer and Training Officer.

Ian was promoted to District Officer in 2010 and to his current rank of Deputy Regional Chief North in 2013.

Ian has worked as Regional Chief multiple times and was Acting Regional Chief North West for a period of 2 years.

During his career Ian has been instrumental in shaping Volunteer and Career training and the operational structures and doctrine that the Tasmania Fire Service uses today. He is active in Regional Emergency Management Structures and established the doctrine for the “Community Emergency Stabilisation” Process used to transition from operations to recovery.
